Google is chomping on the heels of Apple to become the best tech company in the world. Judging by the relatively dismal performance of the Apple watch, Google is poised to stand a fighting chance. The Googs has invested millions into developing innovative new ideas, along with a vast recruitment haul that snapped up some of the best and brightest talent around.
The labs of the search behemoth are notoriously secretive, and industry enthusiasts are left to poke around Google’s patent releases to decipher what might be coming next. We’ve assembled a list of some of the most exciting new tech coming out of Mountain View!
Smart Clothing
Where’s the most exciting place to be in Google? It’s not the awesome cafeteria or spa-like offices. The Advanced Technology and Projects group (ATAP) is basically where you’d find Morgan Freeman working on a batsuit.
The ATAP has recently partnered with Levi’s to work on the development of smart fabrics that can sense gestures. Imagine being able to Jedi-swipe your pocket to silence your phone! It could be a reality very soon. Google partnered with Levi’s so that smart fabrics won’t just be intuitive, but stylish to boot.
Project Aura
After the failure of Google Glass, the project was seemingly scrapped. Google had the sense to rebrand and redesign the failed wearable with the new name of “Project Aura.” It’s intended to have many of the same features as its predecessor, with a few new additions.
According to the rumor mill, Google has developed three prototypes for Project Aura. A key new feature replaces the traditional headset with bone vibrations. By sending vibrations through your skull, it can effectively relay sound without having the inconvenience of a bud in your ear. Project Aura is being optimized for the healthcare industry.
A Watch For Diabetes Management
The days of carrying syringes and intermittently escaping to the bathroom could be over for diabetics with the launch of this amazing smartwatch. According to the patent filed by Google, the watch can draw blood via a vacuum tube, and then calculate how much glucose is in your blood stream. It can store the data or send it to a doctor’s office. Diabetics can keep a closer eye on how their blood sugar levels fluctuate, which is a key step in managing diabetes.
Magic Leap
Google is backing a secretive startup called Magic Leap, which is currently valued at $4.5 BILLION dollars! Although information is scarce, Magic Leap could be the biggest game changer since television.
What if you could enter into a different reality — one where anything you imagined could be real? That’s what Magic Leap could do. Rumor has it that with only a simple headset, augmented reality could bring holograms into your everyday life. From playing with a dragon in your living room to marvelling at a tiny elephant nestled in your hands — Magic Leap is real magic.
Just watch the video below to be absolutely amazed by what they’re creating. This is a technology that could change the world, and bring fantasy to life!
Solar Powered Contact Lenses
Google filed a patent for solar powered contact lenses in 2015, and the possibilities are amazing! They could:
- Monitor blood alcohol levels
- Act as your biometric password
- Monitor blood glucose
- Talk to devices
- Generate power
- Sense high allergy areas
- Scan barcodes and prices
Pretty incredible! By placing a tiny computer chip on a photovoltaic contact lens, all-purpose contact lenses could be an amazing innovation!
There are some incredible inventions on the horizon. We can’t wait to see what Google creates next.
