Wearable technology has come a long way from the calculator watches of the ‘70s and ‘80s.

Today’s devices can help you finally get in shape, reach new personal bests, help you manage stress, and so much more. If you can dream it, there’s probably a wearable somewhere that will do it.

But just because you can doesn’t mean you should. There are plenty of devices that promise lofty claims like breaking your bad habits and improving concentration. Instead, they prove to be modern-day snake oil: ineffective, incompetent, or simply unnecessary.
